Our Story

Once upon a time ...

in a small town in France, there was a little boy named Julien. From a young age, he would curiously watch his grandma prepare "La Popote" for the family, absorbing the scent, tastes, and culinary secrets. 
His fascination blossomed into a passion for cooking. After learning from renowned chefs around the world, Julien decided to script his culinary narrative, weaving his own story. The rest, as they say, became history and they all lived happily ever after. 

About Chef Julien :

Julien’s culinary journey began in his childhood, where he found inspiration watching his mother and grandmother cook, leading him to pursue a career in France at a 2-Michelin-starred restaurant at the age of 16. He later refined his skills under Chef Pierre Gagnaire for nearly a decade. 

 

In 2017, he relocated to Hong Kong, initially as the Sous Chef at 'Pierre' in Mandarin Oriental, and later advanced to Executive Sous Chef at The Landmark, Mandarin Oriental. 

 

With over 16 years of experience, Julien co-founded Popote, blending fine dining expertise with a love for home cooking inspired by Hong Kong's culinary scene, its rich culture, his artistic interests, and a desire to present French cuisine in a fresh perspective: reminiscent of shared meals at home.
